Comfort from Troubled Christians

If God permits, in the next few days I plan to post some excerpts from a little book I bought, Comfort for Troubled Christians, by J.C. Brumfield.

What to do with you troubles.

“If you have some troubles, cheer up—God is keeping His promise. ‘In the world ye shall have tribulation.’ (Jn. 16:33)

He does not promise us a life without problems, sorrows or trials, but He does tell us what to do with them. Jesus said, ‘Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.’

Paul was in trouble; he was a prisoner on the way to Rome in a creaky old ship. He faced trial by Caesar who was not noted for friendship with the Christians. Then, ‘contrary winds,’ a storm, shipwreck and ‘no hope.’ Have you ever been at the place of ‘no hope’? Do you know what Paul did? He said ‘I believe God.’ Do you really believe Him? Really?

It is not only the words we speak, but the circumstance under which we say them that reveal real character. ‘I believe God’ is easy to say, but no one ever said it under more unbelievable circumstances that Paul. The story recorded in Acts 27 gives us one of the great pictures of faith in the Bible.

We may liken Paul’s voyage to life. It is truly a ‘voyage of faith’.”

I do believe God has brought me to this place for a purpose. I cannot say that I truly understand why, but I am coming to the realization that the “WHY” question is of no real importance. It is the question of What—What He wants to accomplish in my life and in the lives of those around me. I pray earnestly that my “tribulation” will be used in such a way that Christ is truly reflected in my circumstance!

It is easy for me to believe for someone else’s healing. I can find all kinds of reasons God could or would not bring healing into my life. But when all is said and done, it is up to me. I desperately want to have that voyage of faith that Paul had and believe God. Pray for me that God will help my unbelief!!

It is comforting to believe that God keeps His promises—ALL of them—even the ones about tribulation!!(:-)
